Operating Environment

Hardware

ABConnect runs on any hardware that supports the Java 2 environment.

In general, any machine with performance equivalent to or better than a 200MHz Pentium will run ABConnect. Memory requirements depend on your application, but for an Apache Tomcat with ABConnect installation, 64MB is more than adequate.

Please feel free to contact us at 905-315-9509 to discuss your specific requirements, or see about other processor availability.

Operating System

Again, since the package is written in 100% Pure Java, it is portable to any operating system that supports Java 2. We've run it under Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 95 and Linux, and we'll be happy to work with you to run it under Java in other operating systems.

If you wish to connect to your Programmable Controller using a serial interface, there is an additional requirement that you need an implementation of the javax.comm package under your operating system.

Feel free to call us at 905-315-9509 to discuss specific details

Supported Programmable Controllers

ABConnect connects to the following Allen-Bradley controllers

  • Micrologix We can connect directly to the Micrologix using RS232 DF1 Serial communications, or using a DF1-DH485 converter like Datalink Technologies' DL3500. Serial communication can use a USB serial port adapter if required, so long as the appropriate operating system drivers are available.

SLC 5/05 We can connect using TCP/IP or RS232.

SLC 5/0x As for Micrologix, we can connect using RS232 DF1 serial communications or through a DF1 to DH485 or DH+ adapter.

  • If you are connecting using RS232, we need to ensure that there is a javax.comm implementation available for your environment. We currently have this available for Windows and Linux. Contact us at 905-315-9509 for other systems.
